Professionals Win 2008 SAIC Century Club Matches

Century Club Matches 16 ½ to 7 ½
Lead Overall 37 year Old Series 19-18
Event held At The farms Golf Club

The 37th SAIC Century Club Matches was a wire-to wire win for the professional team capturing the overall match 16 ½ -7 ½. The professionals led from the fi rst day, increased their lead after Saturday and cruised to a 6 ½ to 5 ½ margin in the Sunday Individual Matches. The professionals now hold a 19-18 lead in the 37-year series.

The professionals earned a first day 4 to 2 lead during the Pinehurst Scotch Matches at The Farms Golf Club. On the second day the Professionals extended their lead to 10-2 when they swept play all six matches in Better Ball of Partners Matches. This was the fi rst time in event history that one side captured all the matches in a single day.

Professional team members who captured Sunday individual matches earning 6 ½ points were Jason Edmison (3&2), Scott Mahlberg (6&5), Ross Marcano (4&3), Steve Vaughn (8&6), Bruce Nakamura (1up) and Tim Parun (1up). Amateurs who won their individual matches included Tom Isaak (4&3), Mark Stuart (4&3), Dane Chapin (3&2), Don O’Connor (3&2) and Brian Bazzell (2up). Four professionals players earning points in all of their matches included Ross Marcano, Jason Edmiston, Tim Parun and Scott Mahlberg.

The Century Club Matches Amateur team is selected by accumulating points throughout the year by playing in the San Diego County Tournament Committee and SCGA events, and the professional team in San Diego Chapter of the PGA of America tournaments.
