First Ever Tie in 38 Years of the Event
Overall Series Professionals Lead 19-18-1
Event Held At Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club
The 38th edition of the SAIC Century Club Matches was a see-saw battle for control that ended in its first ever tie, 12-12, in the history of the competition. The tie keeps the Hine Cup with the Professional team who won the 2008 event. Pros led after the first day 4-2 in the Pinehurst Scotch format with the amateurs rallying for 4½ to 1½ points in Better Ball of Partners play to take a 6½ to 5½ lead into the final day of action.
The Professionals captured 6½ points on the final day of play and Amateurs earned 5½ points to even the SAIC Century Club Matches at 12 points a piece. Pat Duncan, Sr. who has played 27 SAIC Century Club Matches was the only player to win three points during the competition and he earned a 1-up win in the final group over Gary Sowinski to tie up the match.
Amateurs and Professionals earn their spots on the teams by accumulating points throughout the year. Amateurs play in San Diego County Tournament Committee and SCGA events, while the Professionals play in the San Diego Chapter of the PGA of America.
Our sincere appreciation goes to SAIC for supporting and sponsoring this year’s matches.
