Century Club and Buick Invitational

Every year PGA TOUR golfers are measured on how they finish on the Official Money List.

The Century Club of San Diego is certainly high up the “Charitable Giving List” with their tremendous donation back to the San Diego community through their varied programs. They raised a record $2.3 million this past year. Over 200 San Diego based charity organizations and schools benefitted from the net proceeds of the 2007 Buick Invitational.

This year raises the total to nearly $13.8 million donated to local charities since the tournament moved to Torrey Pines in 1968.

The majority of the funds came from the Century Club’s Support Our Schools (SOS) program, Chip-In for Charity program, Boys and Girls Clubs of San Dieguito, San Diego County Junior Golf Association, Pro Kids Golf Academy and Military Appreciation activities.

Since the inception of this tournament in 1952, the donation figure from the 2007 Buick Invitational represents the singlelargest amount of funds earmarked for local charities in the 56-year history of the event.

The announcement was made by Corky Lenox, 2007 President of the Century Club of San Diego, which has been the organizing body of the annual PGA TOUR stop for 46 straight years. “We’ve had back-to-back years of over $2 million in charitable giving. What remarkable numbers. This wouldn’t have been possible without the strong support of every Century Club member and our title sponsor Buick,” said Lenox. “The Buick Invitational is a major sporting event not only locally but on a national scale and the Century Club is very proud to give back to the San Diego community. It’s our goal to keep giving more and more each year and that couldn’t happen without the tremendous support of everyone associated with the Buick Invitational.”
