This is a bold but true statement: “The Century Club’s Support Our Schools program (SOS) has been the best fundraiser for San Diego area high schools, period.”

Support Our Schools (SOS), formerly known as the highly successful Save Our Sports campaign, set another record mark this past year raising $611,000 for local schools.

Support Our Schools was broadened in 2005 to include all extracurricular activities at high schools. In past years the program targeted specifically only the sports teams on campus.

Over the past 15 years, the SOS program has raised $6.5 million. The 2008 campaign engaged 89 San Diego area schools.

The leading schools in generating funds in 2008 were Cathedral Catholic High School, Tesoro High School, Poway High School, Rancho Bernardo High School and Mt. Carmel High School.

The idea behind the SOS program is simple. Local high schools and middle schools sell specially discounted any day tickets for $15.00 to the annual Buick Invitational through their booster clubs, athletic departments and oncampus clubs, and they keep 100% of their sales.

“U.S. Bank is committed to supporting San Diego and all of the communities throughout the country where we operate,” noted John Zygowicz, Market President for U.S. Bank in San Diego. “Schools are a vital part of any community and we are proud to continue our affiliation with this most unique fundraising program for the fifth consecutive year. With schools seeing significant budget cuts around the state, we are proud to do our part in helping San Diego high schools fund essential extracurricular activities for the kids.”

“The SOS program has been a wonderful program for our local schools and they can’t wait to hit the streets and make their programs huge dollars. By expanding the program beyond the sports teams a couple of years ago, we’ve been able to help more deserving programs,” said Jeff Byroads, 2008 President and General Chairman of the Century Club. “The SOS ticket campaign is a project that people look forward to each year and it helps so many programs that need funding. SOS has been a great vehicle to help schools and promote the Buick Invitational.”
