Century Club and Buick Invitational

The Buick Invitational always prides itself on its legendary golf courses, rich history and amazing champions. But despite the numerous accolades the Century Club receives for being a superior golf event, it is even more proud of being a leader in donation giving to the San Diego community.

This year alone, the Century Club raised a record $2.7 million. Since the inception of this tournament in 1952, this donation figure represents the single largest amount of funds earmarked for local charities in the 57-year history of the event. Over 200 San Diego based charity organizations and schools were able to benefit from the net proceeds of the 2008 Buick Invitational.

The majority of the funds came from the Century Club’s Support Our Schools (SOS) program, Chip-In for Charity program, Boys and Girls Clubs of San Dieguito, San Diego County Junior Golf Association, Pro Kids Golf Academy and Military Appreciation activities.

The announcement was made by Jeff Byroads, 2008 President of the Century Club of San Diego, which has been the organizing body of the annual PGA TOUR stop for 47 straight years. “The Century Club is an organization dedicated to giving back to the San Diego community and our members continually set high standards to increase the bar of our charitable efforts,” said Byroads. “The Century Club, along with our title sponsor Buick, are very proud that we have built the Buick Invitational into one of the nation’s largest charitable tournaments and we thank all of our supporters that have made that possible.”
