The Century Club’s Support Our Schools program (SOS) is proud to be recognized as “the best fundraiser for San Diego area high schools.” Support Our Schools (SOS), formerly known as the highly successful Save Our Sports campaign, raised $531,000 for local schools. This program was broadened in 2005 to include all extracurricular activities at high schools. Previously, the program specifically targeted only sports teams on campus.

Over the past 15 years, the SOS program has raised over $7 million. The 2009 campaign engaged 90 San Diego area schools.

The leading schools in generating funds in 2008 were Cathedral Catholic High School ($93,165), Rancho Bernardo High School ($28,605), Tesoro High School ($27,765), Mt. Carmel High School ($27,630), and Poway High School ($27,210).

“U.S. Bank is committed to supporting San Diego and all of the communities throughout the country where we operate,” noted John Zygowicz, Market President for U.S. Bank in San Diego. “Schools are a vital part of any community and we are proud to continue our affiliation with this most unique fundraising program for the sixth consecutive year. With schools seeing significant budget cuts around the state, we are proud to do our part in helping San Diego high schools fund essential extracurricular activities for the kids.”

“We live in an environment when our schools are seeing more and more budget cuts. The SOS program allows schools to sell tickets at roughly half price and keep $15 for each ticket sold. Those proceeds can support sports, bands, arts, dance and drama – whatever they choose”

The idea behind the SOS program is simple. Local high schools and middle schools sell specially discounted any day tickets for $17.00 to the annual Farmers Insurance Open through their booster clubs, athletic departments and on campus clubs, and they keep nearly 90% of their sales.

“We live in an environment when our schools are seeing more and more budget cuts. The SOS program allows schools to sell tickets at roughly half price and keep $15 for each ticket sold. Those proceeds can support sports, bands, arts, dance and drama – whatever they choose,” said Tom Wornham, 2010 President of The Century Club. “This change is also being done in conjunction with raising the age at which kids can come free to the Tournament, from 12 years of age to 15, when accompanied by an adult with a ticket. I hope this will allow a family of 4 to enjoy a great day of golf for under $40.”
